Reading & understanding food labels: How to Make Healthy Food Choices and Take the Stress out of Grocery Shopping

There is a ton of information printed on food labels. While most of it is there to help us make informed decisions, some of it can be misleading, and labels can be confusing and stressful if you are not sure what to look for.

At first glance you are bombarded by claims of “high protein”, “low fat”, “heart healthy” and “good source of fibre” yet the picture on the box resembles candy. Flip the package over and the nutrition facts table is a jumble of numbers and terms that most North Americans do not fully understand…and rightly so! One day we are told that fat is bad and the next day we are adding butter to our coffee. Then there is the ingredient list, which provides the best insight into what a particular food item is composed of, but can also be deceiving and leave us with a lot of questions!

After participating in this workshop, you will have a solid understanding of food labels and the expertise needed to confidently navigate the grocery store and make healthy food choices for yourself and your family!

Mastering Your Gut Health: The Importance of Gut Health and How to Optimize it

Research in the area of gut health has been exploding in recent years, and the findings are pretty incredible. Our gut is increasingly being referred to as our “second brain.” It is the home to trillions of bacteria and other microorganisms, produces over 15 different hormones (that we know about), regulates our digestion, has been linked to nearly every system in our body, and is also associated with a number of chronic diseases. Our gut, or large intestine, is a critical player in overall health and wellness and something we should all be working to optimize. However, it can also be incredibly confusing. The media is booming with gut health info, and probiotics are being injected into every other food product. With all the information out there, it can be hard to decipher what is accurate and what is not. Gut health is also a complicated subject that can be challenging to understand without a science degree.

In this workshop you will learn the simple science behind how our gut health can impact our overall health, and evidence-based diet and lifestyle habits you can implement today to master your gut health for long term health and wellness!
